Mel has been married to his wife, Michele, for twenty five years. They have a daughter named Becky and a grandson named Logan. Both Mel and Michele are originally from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a town located on Lake Winnebago. In 1997, Mel decided that he'd shoveled enough snow and made the move to Arizona. He'll never have to shovel snow again! Mel and his wife both love to ride their bikes whenever they can. Mel is presently on a 1996 Honda ST100 and his wife is riding a 2002 Kawasaki Nomad. Being in the business though, Mel likes to change bikes a lot. He and his wife have a home in the Rim country of Arizona and they "love to spend a Sunday morning cutting up some curves on the way to breakfast somewhere up on top of the rim." Mel's favorite bike trip is when he and Michele spent ten days in California. They took in the national forests and then rode Highway 1 from the Oregon border to Los Angeles. Mel really enjoys his days at D&D. He said, "We are in a retirement and vacation area so we get to meet some of the nicest folks from all over the U.S.A., Canada and Europe. We service bikes for a rental agency from Holland and have shipped accessories and trikes to many parts of the world." Mel speaks weekly at a local meeting on what's new in the industry and on safety and maintenance. He feels very strongly about "putting back what Mark and I have learned." When asked how he feels about D&D, Mel says, "I think that Mark and I are both committed to our customers and the quality of their experience at D&D whether it's in the service department or in the store. We want to bring the best product and service that we can to our customers. We have spared no expense on shop erquipment and products for the store." Mel is definitely a "people person" and all of his customers are very important to him. Certain customers, however, stand out in his mind. "Mark and I both have the pleasure of working with a lot of great customers but the ones that I hold near and dear are the first time riders and the handicapped riders that won't take their lot in life as handicapped. There are merely hurdles that we must cross together to get them out of a chair and into the wind. These folks give all of us strength and when we custom engineer a bike to fit their special needs and it works, we're both very happy." D&D Discount Motorcycles 617 S.
